In Poetry
We remember as we see it
clear as cloudless sky
heart’s beloved memory
living on in you and I
‘neath walking shoes and raspy breath
are crunching leaves and bracing air;
we, only we - no one else - there
though people surround us, everywhere
downward upward sideways glances
brushing shoulders, forearms, hips
wishing wishing they were lips
not just twined hands and finger tips
counting down the weeks and days
till mem’ries were relived and made
to autumn song we danced and swayed
then time ran out on island glade
lands and seas and zones away
will we ever meet again
perhaps some day, somewhere we can
but always in love poetry’s realm
